About Me and Ambient Qigong
South African born, a natural lover of nature who grew up as a wild child under the African sun. A childhood that I will never forget of freedom in the wild, learning from nature and connecting the natural way. Moved permanently to the UK in 2000, where I instantly fell in love with the English Countryside and all it's magic. Currently residing in West Sussex.
'Ambient' is your immediate surroundings. It is where you can physically only be right now. So as you experience the time of day, season in hand with it's current climatic conditions, you reflect this by embracing this moment. When you apply the correspondence of Yin & Yang with the Five Elements with your Qigong Practice one aligns with the natural forces of nature and harmonizes. This is optimal for the body and is naturally applied to your dietary habits, exercise practices and rest/ relaxation, so that you are in sync. Growth and transformation become easier as there is no resistance or blockages in the way.
Over time you develop a sense of your Wei Qi (Protective Qi) Starts at the surface of the skin and generally first felt in the hands - and then you progess ...
On a personal note - I believe that the true benefit of Qigong can only be attained once the body is correctly aligned and a true state of relaxation maintained, with guided/ intentful breathing and a calm but focused mind.
Started training in Wing Chun Kung Fu at the age of 16 back in South Africa. The Chinese internal arts of Kung Fu always fascinated me, especially theories of Yin & Yang, Five Elements and Daoism. After moving to the UK I dabbled in a few mixed martial arts but never found what I was initially introduced to. So carried on my personal training of Wing Chun and Qigong from what my first teacher taught me. Eventually I decided to gain formal and recognized qualifications in Qigong and now Instruct Qigong as a Certified Level 2 Instructor for the Tai Chi, Qigong & Feng Shui Institute by Master Wing Cheung, as my full-time occupation for Ambient Qigong.
Join me in class or privately where we focus on body alignment, correction of posture, relaxation techniques, breathwork and visualization practices. These are the basic requirements for Tai Chi Qigong. The core teachings are based on Shibashi Qigong and also incorporate principles of Tai Chi Silk Reeling and Tendon Changing Classics (Yi Jin Jing). My main focus however is for students to start creating a language of Qigong through experience and practice and to go into what we refer to as Qigong Mode.
